1810 Three Piece Gentleman’s Purple Court Suit, French. #Regency #Fashion #France

Suzi Love Posted on June 15, 2021 by Suzi LoveJune 15, 2021

1810 Three Piece Gentleman’s Purple Court Suit, French. Worn by a rich and fashionable gentleman after Napoleon Bonaparte revived court traditions when he crowned himself Emperor of France in 1804. Gentlemen were expected to wear extravagant court dress, but the working class despised these luxurious fashions and royal overspending. Wastage of France’s money spurred French peasants to rise up in revolt and create the French Revolution. via Metropolitan Museum, N.Y.C., U.S.A.metmuseum.org

Light-Hearted Look At Young Gentleman’s Day In Jane Austen’s Times, or Early 1800s. #Regency #Nonfiction #JaneAusten

Light-hearted look at a young man’s day in the early 1800s. Depicts the ups and downs of a young gentleman’s day in the Regency Era, or Jane Austen’s years. Through historic images, historical information, and funny anecdotes, it shows how a young man about town fills his day, where he goes, and who he spends time with. This light-hearted look at the longer Regency years is an easy to read overview of what people did and wore, and where they worked and played. There is plenty of information to interest history buffs, and lots of pictures to help readers and writers of historical fiction visualize the people and places from the last years of the 18th Century until Queen Victoria took the throne. 1801-1828 ca. Double breasted tailcoat of navy wool with blue velvet collar. #Regency #Fashion

In the early 1800s, men no longer wore complicated styles and extravagant fabrics. Men’s fashion simplified and became more conservative. A well cut tailcoat, vest, pantaloons and an immaculate cravat of beautiful white linen in the style of George Bryan, or Beau, Brummell. Clothes were a status symbol and indicated a man’s social position. These clothing items were the sort worn by Jane Austen’s male family and friends.
