{"id":27616,"date":"2026-09-29T22:30:00","date_gmt":"2026-09-29T12:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.suzilove.com\/?p=27616"},"modified":"2026-09-17T19:06:00","modified_gmt":"2026-09-17T09:06:00","slug":"wedding-customs-from-olden-day-rituals-wedding-history-britishhistory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.suzilove.com\/?p=27616","title":{"rendered":"Wedding Customs From Olden Day Rituals. #wedding #History #BritishHistory"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Many of today\u2019s wedding customs originate from olden day rituals.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The best man<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp; He was chosen for being the strongest and bravest man who accompanied and protected&nbsp;the groom when he rode off to capture a bride. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The bride on the left side<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 This was so that the groom\u2019s right hand was always free to draw his sword if they were attacked during the ceremony by jealous rivals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The bride\u2019s veil<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 These days it is only a flimsy piece of lace, but it used to be a large sheet used to wrap over the bride when she was captured and carried away by a groom.&nbsp;Smaller veils then became a symbol of hidden precious goods, and a symbol of complete submission to a husband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Orange blossoms \u2013&nbsp;<\/strong>White&nbsp;ones worn as a sign of virginity, but as few trees bear greater crops, orange blossoms were also worn as a prayer for the bride to bear fruit in a prolific&nbsp;manner like the tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tying the knot<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 The wrists of&nbsp;a couple are bound together with a strip of leather or ribbon in handfasting.
