Kelly’s Justice is a contemporary romantic suspense set in Vanuatu, previously the New Hebrides. I lived there for nine years and loved every minute of it as the people are warm and welcoming and our kids lived an adventurous and safe life.

Kelly needs no help solving international security problems, but when someone from her past threatens her life, she needs assistance. Joining forces in Vanuatu with her old friend, an expert on South Pacific politics, they destroy an island drug cartel and rescue kidnapped teenagers. But can she and Grant finally have a future together after an old enemy tries to kill them both?

Unfortunately, like the rest of the South Pacific, peaceful Vanuatu was targeted for several years as a stepping stone to move drugs from South East Asia into Australia. My hero in Kelly’s Justice works for Australian Customs and is in Vanuatu tracking some of these drug smugglers. My heroine, Kelly, knew Grant previously from their time in the Australian army and is sent from America to Vanuatu to rescue kidnapped teens. Their paths cross when they, and the teenagers, get caught up with a large and desperate drug smuggling group and their lives are only saved because Kelly and Grant have military experience, a knowledge of Vanuatu life and speak French, English and the local Pidgin, Bislama.

This story is based on events that happened while I lived in Vanuatu. Drug smugglers tried many ways to ship their drugs, often repackaging them in South Pacific countries in the hope of fooling Australian and New Zealand Customs with different custom forms. Drugs were seized from inside boat hulls and in all sorts of household cargo, including the lining of fridges. Australia sent drug experts and Customs Officers to help Vanuatu Customs catch these criminals and, as locals, we celebrated every time millions of dollars of drugs were seized and destroyed.

During my years in Vanuatu, millions of dollars worth of drugs were seized and many drug smugglers were sent to jail. So my story is about a feisty heroine and a yummy hero who help keep Vanuatu safe and free of drugs, the same way customs kept it safe when we lived there.
