1816 July Opera Dress, English. Dress of white lace worn over a rich soft white satin slip. Skirt trimmed in a style of peculiar elegance, with lace festooned at regular distances, festoons edged by plain band of byas satin and finished by pearl ornaments of a very novel and pretty shape. Lace body is cut byas and richly ornamented round the bosom with pointed lace. Plain long sleeve, very full, except towards the wrist, which is nearly tight to the arm, and elegantly finished with lace. Hair ornamented with a wreath of French roses, parted in front, and simply dressed in loose curls, which fall very low on each side. Hind hair forms a tuft at the back of the head. Necklace, ear-rings, and bracelets of pearl. White satin slippers, and white kid gloves and a blush colored French silk scarf. Fashion Plate via Rudolph Ackermann’s ‘The Repository of Arts’. https://books2read.com/SuziLoveFashionWomen1815-1819

Gorgeous Regency Era clothing came in a wide range of styles to suit every season and occasion. Ladies in the Bridgerton series and in Jane Austen’s times wore Empire style dresses which were usually made of light fabric and floaty in style. By the later 1810s, stripes were very popular and lace and frills were added to make the dress more individual.

The Viscount’s Pleasure House. Irresistible Aristocrats Book 1 By Suzi Love. Three naive country ladies coerce their way into London’s most infamous brothel and the last Sultan’s gala. Disenchanted Viscount tutoring three Regency Ladies. What could go wrong?

The Viscount’s Pleasure House allows Justin, the most notorious Viscount in London, to fund his search for his missing mother and sisters. But after three years catering to the sordid whims of the perpetually bored Upper Ten Thousand in early Victorian times, the Virile Viscount announces his retirement.

Justin plans to sell his exotically themed brothel and cease all Arabian Nights held on his estate, a desperate attempt to cleanse his blackened soul and perhaps revive his deadened sexual interest. So when Lady Chrissie Wellsby begs Justin to tutor her two friends in the amorous arts in exchange for information about his family, Justin is torn. For though he’ll do anything to discover the whereabouts of his family, including teaching three naive ladies how to act like well-schooled courtesans, he loathes being forced into this last performance as a sex God served by his harem.

Having Chrissie willingly act as his sex slave stirs the world-weary viscount into the wildest performance ever given at the Sultan’s tent, but does little to convince Chrissie that he has fallen head over heels in love with her and put his rakish ways behind him. Justin enjoys a wonderful reunion with his family but feels cheated of his chance at love until Chrissie’s friends encourage her to trust the newly reformed viscount.

Chrissie organizes one final gala at the Pleasure House, an erotic night of lovemaking for two to prove her love for Justin and show him she longs to be his wife. https://books2read.com/suziloveTVPH The Viscount’s Pleasure House. Irresistible Aristocrats Book 1 By Suzi Love.

Reader or writer of the Regency Era? Love Jane Austen and Bridgerton fashions? This book covers corsets from late 1700s to early 1800s. #JaneAusten #Georgian #Regency #Corsets Corsets 1790-1810 History Notes Book 16

Corsets or stays transitioning from 1700s into 1800s and worn during Jane Austen’s lifetime. This book shows how supporting underclothing moved away from stomachers and tightly laced stays worn during the 1700s and transitioned into corsets that were less formed and far more comfortable. Wearing the correct underclothing was essential for keeping garments in place and giving the best fashion display. Corsets worn during Jane Austen’s lifetime.

Do you love music, Jane Austen and the Bridgerton family? Treat yourself to a nonfiction book on music history from the 17th, 18th, and 19th Centuries. #Bridgerton #Music #JaneAusten

Suzi Love Posted on September 12, 2026 by Suzi LoveSeptember 11, 2026

Music history from the 17th, 18th, and 19th Centuries. Pianos, pianofortes, harps, viols, violins played during Jane Austen’s times. Musical Instruments were so important in most of the more affluent households in history that large industries grew all around the world to manufacture instruments, musical accessories, and to print sheet music. Musical instruction and encouragement could be found everywhere and both young ladies and gentlemen were encouraged to have musical appreciation. And of course, playing music was on the list of social requirements for all young ladies desirous of becoming a wife and homemaker.

London became Europe’s leading centre for the manufacture of scientific instruments and this led to the manufacture of more musical instruments as well as factories developed and rail transport helped the faster distribution of goods to regional areas. One of the first places that music was used to tell stories and to share enjoyment was in Christmas music. Because music was such an integral part of households, music was always a feature in Magazines. There were advertisements everywhere for musical instruments for sale, for sheet music, and for music lessons.  And of course, of most interest to the ladies were the hundreds of fashion plates included in magazines where people were depicted with their musical instruments.

1820 ca. Silk Pelisse, Probably American. Puffed sleeves at the shoulders, scalloped collar, military style braiding to decorate, waist slightly lower and skirt more bell shaped than typical Empire style, straight front and gathered back. via Metropolitan Museum, N.Y.C., U.S.A. metmuseum.org

Definition Redingote Or Pelisse Or Walking Dress Or Coat: French word developed from English words, riding coat. Long fitted outdoor coat worn over other garments for warmth. Often left open at the front to show off the dress underneath. Sometimes cut away in front. Originally made with several capes and trimmed with large buttons. French fashion plates call these coats Redingotes and they are designed for women, men and children. English fashion plates call them a Pelisse, a walking dress, Promenade dress, or Carriage dress.

Definition Military Style: The short puffed sleeves over the long straight sleeves and the military style of braids across the vertical front opening became popular in the late Regency years when many countries, especially Britain and France, had been fighting wars for many years. It was seen as patriotic to wear military styled clothing in support the hundreds of thousands of soldiers wearing their uniforms in cities all across Europe. Aristocrats wearing uniforms were seen as romantic heroes and men who couldn’t fight in the battles wore coats, Redingotes, and Pelisses that looked military with capes, brass buttons and braids. books2read.com/suzilovePelisse

1825 Corset: Brown Cotton Stays With Embroidered Hearts, Back lacing and Shaping #Corset #RegencyFashion #RomanticEraFashion

Suzi Love Posted on September 11, 2026 by Suzi LoveSeptember 10, 2026

The main purpose of corsets was to support and shape the breasts. Though they still slimmed the midriff, this was not the prime purpose of a corset in the 1820s. The waistline of dresses had lowered to below the bust line and nearer to the true waist so corsets were longer and were given added shaping by stitching and cording and by shaping the breasts with pleated or gathered cups.
